Belper, Derbyshire, UK
Born in 1975 in Scunthorpe, England, I have always loved to draw and paint. Encouraged in all things creative by my mother, herself a talented painter and woodworker, and my father, a gifted writer and poet, it was suggested that I go to art college, however my lifelong love of horses won out and I went to agricultural college instead, and a career in the equine industry followed. A gift of a box of watercolours from my parents at Christmas 2005 resparked my passion, and in 2006 I made it my aim to turn my hobby into a professional career. I was really encouraged by my friends and family, and started to undertake commissions and exhibit my work, and I have never looked back! Having experimented with most mediums over the years, I have found my enduring passion is to paint in watercolour. I love watercolours for their beautiful transparency, fluidity and unpredictablilty as they form random and unique effects, which are perfect for depicting my subjects in a loose and expressive style. My paintings are far from formal and photographic, they are lively and vibrant depictions which capture the essence of the subject.
